Desires can wants, and desires can be needs, it's just a matter of how you look at and interpret your desires. The desire to go on vacation sometimes comes across as a need, because you may fell worn down and weary from work, school, family, or life in general. That desire is still a want. It is a choice that you are longing for. The desire to drink or eat may come across as a want, but it most definitely is needed. If you have not eaten anything in a long period of time, you have a headache and feel weak, and you want to eat a sandwich or any kind of food. That is a need. Your body needs food to give you energy and keep you going. Can this need always be met? No. People fall on hard times, and they have to choose not to eat in order to take care of other needs. For example, the parent that does not eat to make sure his or her child has enough food.
The desire to be in the company of other people, want not a need. You get tired of always being alone that you desire to be with someone, and you don't care who it is, you are grasping in a sea of darkness. Being alone is important for you to connect with yourself and take that time to learn who you are without the noise of someone else's influence. Take that time and spend it with the God. You feel alone, but HE is always with you, taking care of you behind the scenes, sometimes fulfilling those desires and keeping you company. You just don't notice him, or you choose to ignore him. Reach for him, desire him, and everything you NEED will be supplied. Did you think you were alone? Did you think no one cared? Then you don't know that Jesus cares, he died for you. You don't know that God loved you so much he sent Jesus to you to take on your burdens. God is always with you, so you are never alone.
When desires feel overwhelming, remember the want you have will pass, and the needs will be met when you trust. Trust in the Lord, then trust in yourself.
